A scientific workshop on understanding the h-index and its importance for academic staff

Within the framework of the efforts made by the President of University of Anbar, the honorable Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Talib Al-Nada, to support the development of science and the educational process, and his keenness to enhance academic research and increase the scientific impact of research published by faculty members, the College of Education for Pure Sciences / University of Anbar was established under his patronage and direct supervision by the honorable Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman Salman Jumah, a training workshop entitled:

Understanding the h-index and its importance for academic staff

 The assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs, Dean of the College of Education for Pure Sciences, and Director of Scientific Affairs at the University Presidency attended it.

The assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Assist Prof. Dr. Salwan Mahmoud Abdel Latif, was lectured at the workshop.

It addressed the following topics:

1- Introducing the aforementioned indicator and its importance in evaluating the quality of academic research.

2- Highlighting the reasons for universities’ interest in this indicator.

3- Effective strategies to increase scientific citations and how to improve the aforementioned indicator.

4- Advices to improve the visibility of academic research on international publishing platforms and increase scientific influence.

The workshop provided a set of valuable ideas and information for teachers, as it contributed to raising awareness of the importance of academic citations and how to improve them to achieve greater impact in the academic community.

The college thanks all the participants and looks forward to more meaningful scientific events in the future.
